5% of cervical smears are reported as abnormal and require further follow up. This may entail a colposcopy examination to further characterise the level of abnormality.
Often with mild precancer changes it is possible to manage conservatively without treatment but for moderate and severe precancer changes a straightforward outpatient procedure to remove the abnormal tissue area can be safely undertaken.
Within the Gynaecology Group we are able to offer a colposcopy assessment and treatment if required within a week together with management plans regarding follow up.
