In line with the national effort to diagnose cancer earlier and improve outcomes there are some red flag symptoms for possible gynaecological cancers that your GP will be aware of that require urgent further assessment and investigation.
This can be unscheduled bleeding or abnormal appearance to the tissues on examination requiring specialist review to exclude cancer. Although symptoms may be reported by patients, abnormalities can also be detected on scans undertaken for separate symptoms.
In such circumstances, it is normally possible to have an assessment with 48 hours if indicated with urgent additional scans and investigations available at short notice to exclude cancer to give peace of mind.
